American artist Ross Bleckner, known for his large scale paintings that deal primarily with remembrance and loss, has sold his Hamptons estate that once belonged to Truman Capote, for $13.99 million, the New York Post reports.

Located at 683 Daniels Lane in Sagaponack, Long Island, south of the highway, Sagaponack compound, the secluded estate, has four different buildings on more than 4 acres of land. The 5, 000 square foot, two story house, built in 1960, has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
In addition to the main house, there’s also a guest house, a 2000 square foot artist’s studio, a 576 square foot detached garage, and a large swimming pool.
The estate boasts rolling lawns and mature trees as well as a view of the Atlantic Ocean.
The new owners will be able to build up to 11, 500 additional square feet of roofed structures.
Bleckner acquired the property in the 1990s for only $800, 000, after it had become dilapidated. He then proceeded to renovate and modernize the home with features such as central air conditioning.
In 2006, Sagaponack ranked number one on Forbes.com’s list of the most expensive zip codes in America.
Truman Capote said that he loved to write there and once described Sagaponack as “Kansas with a sea breeze.” In an interview he said that “You can see how quiet it is here because you can barely see the top of another house. This is a place to be alone.”
The listing described the area as having “classic shingled mansions on wide open spaces is one good reason why.
