Ebola spreads quickly and is often fatal. The World Health Organization reports that the Ebola virus disease, also known as Ebola haemmorhagic fever, usually occurs in Central and Western African villages located in proximity to rain forests and can be spread from animals to humans. From there, humans can transfer the virus to each other through casual contact. The Economic Community of West African States has established a disease control center in Guinea to battle the virus and hopefully, to eliminate it.
However, more needs to be done in terms of human resources and funding to prevent more Ebola virus fatalities from occurring. Some have suggested closing borders, but Keiji Fukuda, deputy director general of the WHO, said such a move will create more anxiety and disruption of economies than it will help in the battle against the virus.
