Health care professionals are extremely well paid in the United States and dominate the country’s best-paid jobs. American general practitioners are the highest-paid in the world with specialists taking home more than any other country apart from the Netherlands. Anybody who wants one of America’s most lucrative jobs will have to go to med school.

Anesthesiologists are the highest earners overall, with annual mean wages of $235, 100. Surgeons follow with $233, 200 while Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons round off the top three. They earn an impressive annual mean wage of $219, 000. Out of America’s top 10 highest paid professions, just one, chief executive, can compete with the health care sector. The annual mean wage of a chief executive in the United States is $178, 400.
