Katie Couric has wound down a three decade long career on the small screen, with the final episode of “Katie”, to be aired in September, now in the can.

Ms. Couric who was informed in December  of last year that  her syndicated daytime talk show produced by Disney-ABC Domestic Television show would be  canceled  at the end of the season,  acknowledged at that time her realization that daytime television  may not have  been  the  ideal platform to do some of the things she  wanted to do,  although going on to explain  that she was curious to give the media  a try.

Before she began her short stint  in daytime  syndicated talk in 2012,  Katie Couric was a solo anchor lady for  “CBS Evening News” becoming network news’s first female solo anchor, going there after after a long successful run as joint  anchor of NBC’s “Today” show.

Katie   will now be focusing her considerable energies and talents to her role as a global anchor for  Yahoo, where she began to spend some time, from the beginning of the year, giving every  indication that her interviewing style will adjust itself ideally to an online setting, having successfully  conducted a number of  interviews with  key figures from the world of politics and entertainment, on  Yahoo’s website.

In a recent interview Ms. Couric stated her preference to host chat shows that had some intrinsic news value rather than being solely based on the usual  celebrity or tabloid topics. However, like many before her  Ms. Couric’s chat show failed to really draw the audiences, with an  average of  two million viewers tuning in to her show, although with too low a percentage of being in the targeted demography as far as potential consumers were concerned, the 25-to-55-year-old female bracket.

Katie indicated in the interview that she has already come to terms with the fact that she may not be given the same leeway to choose the topics that she prefers to focus on with Yahoo, where she will be  the key player  in putting  together  a comprehensive  news  reporting team.

Marissa Mayer, CEO of  Yahoo, is already handing out considerable praise on Ms. Couric’s efforts on behalf of the  search engine / web portal, going on to express her excitement at being able to  “have even more of her innovation and leadership at Yahoo as we continue to reimagine how news is reported and delivered.”

Katherine Anne “Katie” Couric has acted as  a television host on all of the “Big Three United States television networks, beginning with NBC News  where she worked from 1989 to 2006, leaving them to join  CBS News where she remained till  mid-2011, when she left to  join up with ABC News.

In addition to her regular television news spots, Katie has also found the time to  serve as a special correspondent for ABC News, contribute to ABC World News, Nightline, 20/20, Good Morning America, This Week as well as a number of  prime time news specials.

Couric’s first book, The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons from Extraordinary Lives made it on to the  New York Times best-seller.

Katie’s endeavors to further  the goals of television  earned  her induction into the Television Hall of Fame in 2004.
