Ivan Reitman, the well-known film director has been taking a backseat for the movie business in the last year or so and is now on the verge of opening a restaurant in his hometown of Toronto, Canada.
Teaming up with Reitman on the restaurant project partners will be Chef Jonathan Waxman, best known for those who love good food as owner of the Barbuto restaurant situated in the heart of West Village, in in New York City,
Ivan Reitman and Chef Jonathan Waxman’s new 12, 000-square-foot, 280-seat restaurant to be named the Montecito, will be ideally situated located at 299 Adelaide St. W., in the heart of the city’s entertainment district.
While Chef Waxman is still keeping tightlipped on details of the cuisine to be served at the Montecito, due to open sometime next month, although he is prepared to admit that on the dessert menu will be a dish to be called “ Ghostbusters’ Stay Puft Marshmallow Man” with details of what it will comprise yet to be revealed.
The only clue that Chef Waxman was prepared to reveal is for those film fans who so enjoyed the first two Ghostbusters movies that Reitman directed, to think back on how the “ Marshmallow Man” met his fate.
Ivan Reitman was born in Komárno, Czechoslovakia, the son of Holocaust survivors. When he aged just four, Ivan moved with his family to Toronto, Canada in 1950
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in music from McMaster University in Toronto, Reitman began his career in the movie industry initially by directing short films, gradually becoming involved in full length movies.
By the end of the 1970s, Reitman or become a regarded as one of the most talented and versatile young producers/directors on the Hollywood scene, largely due to his success in producing the cult movie National Lampoon’s Animal House in 1978.
Ivan followed that success up through directing the comedy film Meatballs which starred Bill Murray. During the 80s and early 90s Reitman either produced or directed some of Hollywood’s most successful comedies including Stripes , Ghostbusters, Legal Eagles, Twins with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito and the highly successful follow-up Ghostbusters II.

Jonathan Waxman is an American celebrity chef recognize as being one of the pioneers of California style of cooking which involves fusing French cooking techniques with the freshest local ingredients, to New York.
Chef Waxman’s new cookbook, Italian, My Way published by Simon & Schuster, features recipes that are “Italian” themed but flavored by unmistakably Californian elements of taste and materials.
