Well, isn’t it lovely to be Adam Levine. Not only is the 35 year-old BMI “Songwriter of the Year” musician the frontman of a multi-platinum, 3-time Grammy Award winning band and the star of a high-rated Emmy Award winning competition show, he now also has a major role in a soon-to-be-released film by the director of 2006’s “Best Original Song” Academy Award winning indie hit “Once”, and – as it now turns out – his relatively-new record label will be releasing the film’s decidedly intriguing soundtrack.
222 Records, a label founded by the Maroon 5 singer and “The Voice” star Levine in 2012, has announced a distribution partnership with Interscope Records, that would kick in with the release of the soundtrack to the musician’s first starring film, “Begin Again”.
The soundtrack, which features songs written by Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois of the chart-topping 1990’s group New Radicals, as well as Glen Hansard, who won an Oscar for his song “Falling Slowly”, and performed by Levine, Cee Lo Green and Keira Knightley, will be released July 1 on ALXNDR/222/Polydor/Interscope. The film, from the Weinstein Co., opens in Los Angeles and New York on June 27 and goes wide July 11.
In “Begin Again”, Levine plays an aspiring pop star who lands a major-label record deal and dumps his musician girlfriend, played by Keira Knightley, who then hooks up with a washed-up record producer, played by Mark Ruffalo, to make an album of her own.
Founded in 2012 in Los Angeles, 222 Records offers a diverse roster of artists including singer/songwriter Rozzi Crane, who collaborated with Maroon 5 on the first “Hunger Games” soundtrack, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Adam Levine began his musical career in 1995, when he co-founded alternative rock band Kara’s Flowers, fronting it as lead vocalist and guitarist. After a hiatus following the band’s disbandment, Levine reformed it with a fifth member to form Maroon 5. The band released their first album, “Songs About Jane”, which went multi-platinum in the US. Since then, they have released three more albums, “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long” (2007), “Hands All Over” (2010) and “Overexposed” (2012). As part of Maroon 5, he has received three Grammy Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, two American Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award and a World Music Award.
Levine’s father and maternal grandfather are Jewish, while his maternal grandmother was Protestant. Levine considers himself Jewish, though, according to his interview in The Jewish Chronicle, he “has rejected formal religious practice for a more generalized, spiritual way of life.”
