Google will soon unveil its Project Tango, a new mobile device system which will enable users to make 3d pictures and videos. Two Israeli companies’, SagivTech and Mantis Vision, technologies will be used for Tango.
The concept behind Tango is that people will eventually be able to turn any video game 3D. Users will be able to sit in their living rooms and transform their devices into 3D projectors.
Project Tango was launched in February 2014 by Google’s ATAP group as an initiative to compress current understandings about robotics and computer vision into a mobile phone. Developers who want to be involved in Project Tango can start building using the Project Tango Tablet Development Kit which is available for sale at $1, 024 per unit. Google hopes that developers will create 3D games for wide use.
Google is developing the new system with NVIDIA video. NVIDIA says that the tablet, “incorporates cameras optimized for computer vision, advanced sensor fusion algorithms and integrated depth sensing tools, as well as the Nvidia Tegra K1 mobile processor. As a result, it can understand space and motion the way humans do, enabling interior spaces to be quickly mapped in three dimensions, allowing the creation of applications that blend real and virtual objects.”

Based in Petah Tikva, Mantis Vision is a developer of 3D enabling technologies. Its MV4D technology platform will serve as the core 3D engine behind Google’s Project Tango. Mantis Vision provides the 3D sensing platform, consisting of flash projector hardware components and Mantis Vision’s core MV4D technology which includes structured light-based depth sensing algorithms.
MV4D is Mantis Vision’s scalable 3D capture and processing platform. Developers can integrate Mantis’ technology into new and existing applications in order to drive user-generated 3D content creation throughout the mobile ecosystem.
Google’s new seven-inch tablet is the first mobile device to utilize the MV4D platform to capture, enrich and deliver 3D data at scale. This, according to Mantis, will allow Google developers to quickly build consumer and professional applications on top of the MV4D platform.

Mantis is a private company established in 2005.
Based in Raanana, SagivTech Ltd. is a provider of solutions for image and signal processing algorithms and their applications’ over parallel computing platforms. Operating as an ISV, SagivTech works in algorithm and software development, and GPU computing.
The company is currently working with European partners in a project called ScenNet. SceneNet plans to enable users to turn any simple videos three dimensional. This is done by combining all of the footage taken from different angles of events like rock concerts and sporting matches.
SagivTech was founded by the husband and wife team, Nizan and Chen Sagiv.
Project Tango’s new technologies can also be used to aid the disabled, such as the blind. It has already created a mobile phone with customized hardware and software designed to track its motion in 3D and in real time, while it is being held by a user. Blind people can use it to detect any impediments along their path.
Microsoft and Intel are also currently developing similar types of 3D Technologies. As is always the case in the world of business, the first company to make the breakthrough and market its product will have a great advantage over later competitors.
Google, it seems, will be that first company as it already plans to market its 3D tablet this year.
