Daniel Pritzker is the son of the late Hyatt Hotels entrepreneur Jay Pritzker, and he is an independent billionaire in his own right these days, worth as much as US$2.2 billion according to Forbes Magazine.
As an independent filmmaker, he has followed in the path of his sister, the successful producer Gigi Pritzker, though without yet having much to show for it himself. All he has managed to complete so far is a short 70 minute movie about jazz trumpeter Louis Armstrong, that has since been mostly gathering dust on its creator’s shelf.

Daniel Pritzker has also been making a second movie, one that he started as long ago as 2007, and so far he has been unable to finish it at all, despite spending up to a reported US$100 million on it.
The film is about an obscure jazz musician, Buddy Bolden from the age of jazz, and originally starred actor Anthony Mackie. Since it has taken so long to finish most everyone involved, including Mackie, has moved on. Now, to finish the film Daniel Pritzker has had to find a new star and re-shoot much of the movie, as Mackie reportedly refused to remain involved.

Instead actor Gary Carr, who appeared in Downton Abbey, will reprise the role when the sets are all dug out of storage in what is announced will be a concentrated three months shoot to finish the film. A number of entertainment websites, including the influential Showbiz*411 remain quite sceptical as to whether it will ever actually be finished.
Mr. Pritzker, who lives in Marin County, California, is an accomplished musician himself. No doubt he will very much want to prove his critics wrong at this point.
