Frederick Iseman, founder and chief executive of private equity fund CI Capital Partners has announced his plans to make a $5 million endowment to Yale University, his former seat of learning.

$2 million of the funding will  go towards extend a program augmented by Frederick Iseman, which will continue to allow students at Yale free access to the Metropolitan Opera’s HD broadcasts along with  its Met on Demand archives. Frederick Iseman  began underwriting this program in 2010

The remaining $3 million endowed by  Iseman has been set aside to establish the Frederick Iseman Professor of Poetry Fund, designed to provide support for a recognized poet or poetry scholar.

The University has yet to decide or at least  name the candidate to be the first holder of the chair, although are allowing themselves considerable leeway in their choice, with the successful candidate being recognized as someone who teaches, has taught or will  teach poetry emanating from any historical era as well as  in a large number of languages- English, French, German,  Italian, Spanish and Russian with also the option of  ancient Greek or Latin.

Announcing his latest funding obligation Frederick Iseman stated that he was keen  to show support for the humanities at Yale,  going on to explain that  as a former English major at the university, he believed that an endowed professorship of poetry was something the university needed, especially as the UK’s  Oxford University  has had a chair in poetry for more than four hundred years.

Over the years Mr. Iseman has been a constant supporter of   the Yale School of Drama while at the same time having provided financial support for   Yale’s Genocide Studies Program, as well as providing funding for  the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization.

Frederick Iseman graduated with a B.A. in English literature from Yale University in 1975.

After  a long and varied business career in the financial services industries Iseman  founded his own financial services company, Caxton-Iseman Capital LLC in 1993 in partnership with Caxton Associates, the global macro hedge fund founded 10 years earlier by Bruce Kovner.

Late in 2007 Frederick Iseman announced that  the Caxton-Iseman Capital LLC, which he founded had ended their association with  Kovner’s Caxton Associates and would now trade as a completely independent private equity fund under the title of CI Capital Partners LLC.

Since its formation Frederick Iseman has served as  the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CI Capital Partners, LLC, handling financial portfolios for some of the United States largest companies.

In addition to his business activities, Iseman himself busy as a  writer of short stories and articles having been published in such prestigious magazines as The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, and The New Yorker. Over the years  Frederick has also issued his hobby as an actor, even appearing in  Henry Jaglom’s  1987 movie “Someone to Love” alongside Orson Welles and Sally Kellerman.

Frederick Iseman also supports a number of  philanthropic causes, including medical research at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, the Wharton Institute, the Taub Institute for Brain Research, as well as research pm  oncology, immunology among a variety of other subjects.

Iseman’s passionate  interest in the arts and culture and his love for his former university saw him become  the driving force in the founding  of the Frederick Iseman Theater at Yale, as well as being  a member of the Board of Directors of the The Metropolitan Opera, and  on the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Hall.
