20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Arrivals

Oscar-winning Hollywood director David O. Russell has enjoyed remarkable success in  his working association with  talented actress Jennifer Lawrence, and understandably want it to continue.

That’s the reason why the pair have set themselves up for yet another reunion, which will see Jennifer  play the part of Joy Mangano, the lady who staked her place in history by inventing the Miracle Mop, famed for its self-wringing abilities, as well as a number of other consumer friendly devices since the late 1980s among them Huggable Hangers, which went on to become the  best-selling product in the  history of the massive Home Shopping Network (HSN) television network.

Jennifer Lawrence, who has taken the leading female part in both of David’s recent movies Silver Linings Playbook,  which earned the 23 year old Ms. Lawrence  an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2013, which she followed  up with  a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination the following year for American Hustle.

David O. Russell is known for his penchant for directing movies with a difference as much as Jennifer Lawrence is known for her desire to appear in them. According to reports in the movie industry, the young actress is looking forward to telling the life story of Joy Mangano a simple housewife and mother-of-three who rose to become the owner of a multimillion dollar business,  the aptly entitled Ingenious Designs, LLC which she eventually sold out to the Home Shopping Network.

David Owen Russell is an Oscar-nominated director, writer and producer, best  known for directing  Three Kings, The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook.

Russel’s debut feature-length project Spanking the Monkey, released in 1994, failed to draw crowds to the box office, although it was a recipient of considerable critical approval. David’s next release, in 1996,  Flirting With Disaster, a family-based comedy starring Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette did considerably better as did his action drama Three Kings, which earned more than $100 million worldwide.

The budding young director’s career took a step backwards after the lukewarm reception that his 2004 release I Heart Huckabees, a satirical dramedy which Russell wrote the screenplay for and also produced and  directed. Despite  assembling an all-star cast including Lily Tomlin, Dustin Hoffman, Jude Law, Naomi Watts and Mark Wahlberg, “Huckabees”  was rated both a commercial and financial disappointment.

After that setback, David. O. Russell suspended his movie activities for a number of years, although coming back strong in 2010 with the release of his movie “ The Fighter”, starring Mark Wahlberg which earned him an Oscar nomination for his directing work.

Russell has earned to further Oscar nominations for Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, but is yet to pick up the magic statue itself. Who knows if the winning combination of Jennifer Lawrence and Joy Mangano may be what it takes to get him there.
