Idina Menzel has set the music industry talking by becoming the singer to win a Tony award, who has also recorded a Top Ten billboard charting single. Not only that, but her recording of “Let It Go” from the soundtrack of the animated movie Frozen has become an international hit, while the soundtrack album has also reached the top of the US Billboard album charts for the sixth consecutive week.
In addition, “Let It Go, ” won the Oscar for best original song for its composers, husband and wife team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, with Idina Menzel putting in a particularly impressive performance at the Academy Awards ceremony.
The Frozen album, released late in 2013 has already become a million seller with most of the tracks on it also being sung by Idina.
Idina Menzel won her Tony Award in 2004, for her role of Elphaba in the Broadway blockbuster “Wicked”. While both Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler have been Tony winners in the past as well as recording several Top Ten Billboard Chart hits, in both cases the awards were honorary, with neither of them winning an official best actress award.

In the Disney animation Frozen, which was released in late November and has proved to be a tremendous box office success, in the United States and across the world, Menzel plays the part of Elsa the snow queen.
After Idina Menzel first sprang to prominence for her performance of Elphaba in the Broadway blockbuster “Wicked”., she continued her success playing alongside Adam Pascal in the Broadway musical Rent, also going on to appear in the feature film of the same name which was released in 2005.
Menzel has also made a name for her self in the world of television, starring as Shelby Corcoran, the biological mother of Lea Michele’s character Rachel Berry, in the television musical comedy series Glee.
Currently Idina is starring in the Broadway musical If/Then, which during the first week of previews has pulled in close to $1 million, and is due to open officially on the 30th of March at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
