After 208 episodes played out over nine seasons the final episode of  the hit CBS situation comedy “ How I Met Your Mother” will be aired across the United States on the  31st.  March.

In a one-hour long finale,  Ted Mosby (the character played by Josh Radnor), will finally  end his search for the ideal woman  he has been seeking for so long who will eventually become the mother to his children.

Throughout the 208 episodes, the voice of  future Ted   (covered by Bob Saget) tells stories to his children of his life as a young man growing into adulthood in New York, in the company of four close friends played by Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan. Jason Segel and Alison Hannigan play Marshall and Lilly, who have been together since their high school days, and during series got married, and even had a child.  Neil Patrick Harris played the part of eternal playboy Barney Stinson crew in the last season of How I Met Your Mother eventually married Robin Scherbatsky played by Cobie Smulders. It was during the lead up to their wedding that Ted eventually met  the future mother of his children, who till now has remained nameless, with the part being played by Cristin Milioti.

Summing up the show and how it managed to last so long  Alyson Hannigan explained in a recent interview that How I Met Your Mother succeeded in providing all the proper ingredients for a successful situation comedy series including happiness, sadness, humor and information.

Commenting on  how the story of how he eventually find the right woman was threaded into the script Radnor explained that when “mother” was introduced into the storyline, the idea was not to provide a dramatic climax to the series, but more to explain that there was a framework to the story which was more focused on ” a group of people growing up together, usually meeting at the same  table in the fictional but typical  MacLaren’s bar where the five close friends would invariably get together.

Although, according to the show’s producers  Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, there is absolutely no chance that “How I Met Your Mother” will ever make a revival, there are some suggestions around that there may be a spin-off in the offing that will be called

“How I Met Your Dad, ” although with a completely different cast.
