Don Rickles, the internationally renowned stand-up comedian, as well known for his ability to insult members of his audience, irrespective of their status, has been signed up for a number of shows over two weekends The Orleans Showroom in 2014- once in March and again in October.
Such is the extent of Rickles popularity and drawing power that the 850 seat theater is bound to be packed to capacity, with big demand for the front row seats especially.
The reason being that the Las Vegas audience is already aware that the closer you are to Don Rickles when he is performing, the better chance you have of having to bear the brunt of his famous “ good-humored” insults.
Such is the spontaneity of Rickles when he is in full flight on the stage that he has earned the the nickname of “The Merchant of Venom” for his ability to trade and toss good-natured insults with members of his audience. So brilliantly caustic is his style that members of the entertainment industry already anyone who has ever taken in his act, including the late President Ronald Reagan, who have been “Zinged” by Rickles regard it as a form of compliment.

And that’s why more than 3000 people will be rooted firmly into the seats at the The Orleans Showroom in Las Vegas in spring and autumn in the hope that they will also be a victim of the master’s unique sense of humor.
ne of’ first victims was “ Old Blues” Frank Sinatra, who was in the audience at a nightclub in Miami Beach way back in 1957 where the then largely unknown Rickles made a lasting impression on Sinatra by unleashing a barrage of tongue in cheek verbal abuse in his direction.
Sinatra was so impressed by the quality and spontaneity of Rickles’ insults that the next time the portly comedian was performing in Los Angeles, Frank was reportedly in the front of his audience along with a considerable entourage could come along to see the man who had dared to insult the great Sinatra.
Word spread pretty fast about Don’s unique style and soon he was playing to packed houses, with the audience comprising some of Hollywood biggest stars, leading figures from the world of politics and finance, all of them hoping to be picked out to become a target of his insults.
Don Rickles has a style that appears to be best fitted to the atmosphere in Las Vegas, with his first booking coming in 1959, and he has been back ever year since.
As well as his career as a comedian, Rickles is also an accomplished actor having appeared in both movies and television. Among the movie that Rickles has appeared in are “Run Silent, Run Deep”, “Kelly’s Heroes, ” “The Rat Race, ” and most recently “Casino, ” which was shot in Las Vegas.
Now virtually retired, Don Rickles put on an unforgettable performance on “Inside Comedy, ” interviewed by fellow comedian David Steinberg where he discussed his long career in the entertainment industry and the many hundreds of famous people that he has insulted with his brilliant wit.
Despite the insults Rickles is much loved in the entertainment industry, and on his 70th he was handed one of its highest honors, when he received a star in his name on the hallowed Hollywood Walk of Fame.
