Instagram is also now supporting videos as much as three minutes long.
Morgan Stanley analysts predicted that Meta (META) could emerge as the “biggest winner” if the TikTok ban takes effect on Sunday, thanks to its massive user base and extensive data across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
The analysts estimated that for every 10% of U.S. user time currently spent on TikTok that Meta manages to capture, the company could see an additional $0.30 to $0.60 in earnings per share by 2026, boosting its projected earnings of approximately $30 per share.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said in a social media post, “Today we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits,’ for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone. There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators.”
Edits isn’t just a video editing app, asserted Mosseri. It’s a complete creative powerhouse. The new Instagram platform features a dedicated tab for inspiration, a space to organize your early ideas, and a significantly upgraded camera (which I used to record this video). It offers all the essential editing tools you’d expect, lets you share drafts with friends and collaborators, and provides deep insights into performance if you choose to share your videos on Instagram.
However, the future status of TikTok in the US remains unclear.
President Trump led the charge against the company more than four years ago, before he left office at the end of his first term. At the time Trump said that because TikTok was owned by a Chines company it was used by the Chinese government to “spy” on its users. But since his reelection last November, Trump changed his tune on TikTok. After taking office again this week he said that no action would be taken against servers and companies that allow TikTok to continue to operate in America. This is in spite of the fact that a law was passed requiring the app to be blocked in the US.
Trump gave TikTok a 75-day reprieve to find an American buyer as the law requires.
