Best Way for Over 40s to Gain Muscle May Surprise You

Are you a man over the age of 40? Are you having trouble losing weight, or burning off that extra belly fat? Well, don’t worry. You don’t need to take Ozempic or use steroids like some other people are doing these days in order to take off those extra pounds.

“Anyone can build major muscle after 50,” said Dr. Tracy Gapin a board-certified urologist and the founder of the Gapin Institute.

And you can do so without drinking those protein shakes you see the muscle bound guys drinking everywhere. The protein is needed to help their muscles heal after a workout.

Unfortunately, you can’t directly turn fat into muscle. They’re different tissues with different functions. Think of it like trying to turn a banana into an apple – they’re both fruits, but they’re fundamentally different things.

However, there is good news! You can achieve a similar outcome by focusing on two separate but complementary goals: fat loss and muscle gain.

What happens is, through weight training the body burns more fat for the energy needed to heal the muscles after they become “damaged” during a workout. As long as you don’t eat too much or eat a lot of sugar filled junk, then as your muscles grow and become firmer from the weight training the fat in your body will burn away.

And you should also combine strength training with cardio. Strength training with weights or bodyweight exercises will challenge your muscles and stimulate growth. Cardio helps burn calories and overall fitness. This approach, known as body recomposition, can help you lose fat and build muscle at the same time. It might take more time than just focusing on one or the other, but it leads to a healthier and more sustainable physique.

“Guys are shocked when they learn how easy it is to flip fat into muscle,” said Dr. Gapin. “If you take just 5 minutes out of your day, you can see killer results from home.”

This has to do with amino acids. He explains that studies have shown that taking amino acid supplements will help the muscles grow “almost instantly” and so you would not need to consume proteins post workout.

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. They are organic compounds that contain an amino group (NH2), a carboxylic acid group (COOH), and a side chain (R group) that is specific to each amino acid. There are over 500 naturally occurring amino acids, but only 20 of them are used by living organisms to build proteins. These 20 amino acids are known as the standard amino acids.

“Studies show between age 40 – 50, your muscles stop responding to exercise and protein,” explained Dr. Gapin in a video. “But this method helps ‘wake up’ your muscles. Telling your body to pack on muscle like you’re 20 or even 30 years younger.”

Dr. Tracy Gapin has spent 2 decades at the forefront of men’s health, helping thousands of guys regain muscle mass and torch fat. He’s widely known for his celebrated Ted Talk, as well as his appearances in international media, such as NBC and Entrepreneur magazine.
