– Green has slapped a ban on his massive global retail chain selling any products containing Angora wool. –
Sir Phillip Green has announced that he will join the wave of global clothing retailers who are making a stand to put an overdue stop to the mistreatment of animals in the pursuit of profit. Green’s Arcadia group have reacted to recent reports issued by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) revealing the horrific way that Angora rabbits are being treated at massive and inhuman breeding farms, particularly in China. After studying the PETA report Sir Phillip immediately issued a statement in which he confirmed that the Arcadia Group have implemented an immediate ban on selling any items of clothing or indeed any product that contains Angora wool. The Arcadia Group, the UK’s largest clothing chain, operating retail outlets under the labels of BHS, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Topshop and Wallis have added their name to the list of clothing retailers such as ASOS, John Lewis and Marks & Spencer who will no longer sell clothing made from angora wool. The UK public has displayed their unequivocal support for the embargo of Angora based clothing, after a recent documentary, sponsored by PETA, appeared on television, containing graphic shots of how these beautiful animals were being callously treated, in particular how the breeding farm workers were ordered to pluck the wool from the rabbit’s skin rather than using conventional shearing methods. This method, while producing longer fibers, pays no regard for the suffering that the animal is being put through. Sir Phillip Green is recognized as being the UK’s largest fashion retailer with his Topshop brand now represented in many of the world’s leading cities. ranging from São Paulo in Brazil, Johannesburg in South Africa, Sydney in Australia, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas in the United States Topshop also operates more than 40 stores throughout Asia, mostly situated in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. –
