Following a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Leader of the opposition Blue and White Party Benny Gantz held on Wednesday, the two leaders have agreed to establish an emergency government and a war cabinet.
Benny Gantz is a former IDF Chief of Staff who also served as Minister of Defense in the previous government and before that for a year in that post in a Netanyahu led government.
The main aspects of the new emergency government the sides agreed to include Key agreements include the establishment of a “War Cabinet” consisting of three members: the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense (Yoav Gallant), and the Leader of the Blue and White Party. Additionally, Major General Gadi Eisenkot (Ret.) and Minister Ron Dermer will serve as observers in the War Cabinet.

Also, from the Blue and White Party, a total of five ministers without portfolio will be added to the security cabinet (with one of them serving as an observer): Benny Gantz, Gideon Sa’ar, Gadi Eisenkot (a former IDF Chief of Staff), and two additional ministers. This will be for the duration of the war.
A place in the War Cabinet will be reserved for the Leader of the Opposition in case they choose to join and during the period of the war, no legislation or government decisions unrelated to the management of the war will be advanced. Senior appointments will be automatically extended during the war period.
