Michael Douglas, veteran actor and producer, had one of those weeks where almost everything you wish for comes to pass.
Douglas, who recently separated from his wife Catherine Zeta Jones and is doing all his power to win her back, certainly put on an impressive show this week.
It began when he picked up a Golden Globe award for the seventh time in his career spanning back close to 50 years. This time the Golden Globe was for best actor in a TV movie or miniseries for his part in the life story of Liberace, in the HBO movie directed by Steven Soderbergh “Behind the Candelabra”.
Just a few days later, Michael met up with Matt Damon at the 2014 Unicef ball held in the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel, in front of a star studded audience.
Damon, his costar in Behind the Candelabra and unsuccessful nominee for the Golden Globe, had the bittersweet honor of presenting Douglas with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Peace Award, which he did with his usual good grace.
The Unicef Ball has run since 2005 during which time it has succeeded in raising more than five million dollars for the charity’s life saving programs.
No sooner had Douglas finished making a space in his already crowded trophy cabinet for his two new awards than the news broke that the Oscar-winning actor and producer has been signed on to join the cast of “Ant-Man”, Marvel’s upcoming big-screen adaptation of the famous comic book character. Ant-Man, to be directed by Edgar Wright will star Paul Rudd as Scott Lang in the leading role.
Douglas will play the part of super scientist Hank Pym, a well-known Marvel character who has been appearing in the comics for roughly the same time as Douglas has been appearing a television and movie actor- sometime during the mid-sixties.

Ant man Michael douglas
According to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios , with Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves, and that’s the reason why we went for Michael Douglas.
“ We felt incredibly relieved when agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.” Summed up Feige
Douglas, 67, who has either starred in or produced ( and sometimes both) more than 40 movies during his career, was awarded an Oscar as producer for best picture in 1975 for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” as well as for his notorious role as money hungry stockbroker Gordon Gekko Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street” released in 1987.
