Sightful, an Israeli startup that develops new augmented reality (AR) technologies, has revealed a new laptop computer that does not need a screen called Spacetop, in other words, the world’s first AR laptop. The new computer uses AR goggles instead of a screen.

This is groundbreaking. Now laptops will get smaller and lighter. And now more worrying about breaking the screen and needing to get it replaced. People will soon be able to plug in their personal AR into any device. This could mean an end to computer screens, and even televisions, entirely.

Co-founded In 2020 by CEO Tamir Berliner and COO Tomer Kahan – a graduate of the IDF’s vaunted 8200 cyber unit – Sightful says it is committed to moving AR “beyond the hype and to create solutions that are immediately valuable and intuitive, and an essential part of our working lives.” The company’s first product, Spacetop, it says, is a new category of personal computer that takes the traditional laptop and “completely reimagines it. Powered by our unique AR operating system, we create a massive virtual workspace that functions as a private, personal and portable home office.”

“Our people-first philosophy informs all aspects of the company, from product experience and development to customer success,” says Sightful. “We strive to create user-friendly products that are both powerful and easy to use, empowering you to accomplish your daily goals and fulfill your potential.

With 60 employees, Sightful has raised $61 million to date.

Tamir Berliner told Calcalist, “Before you develop the product, you need to know who your customer is and build something based on that. You don’t have to throw a lot of things at the user and say, ‘decide what you want to do with it.’ First we knew why we wanted to build the product and why it was needed, and only after that we developed the technology that made it possible.”

“It is clear to us that this is a new category. The laptop has barely changed since it came into mass use about two decades ago. Our approach is to cooperate with the leading companies,” added Berliner. “If the big players want to cooperate, we will be happy to. At this point the goal is to understand what the users need and make the best version of the product. This is the beginning of a revolution.”

Sightful said it will only sell 1,000 units for now.
