Gwyneth Paltrow is being sued over her part in a ski accident that occurred in 2016. On Tuesday the lawsuit filed by a man who alleges the Oscar winner “violently” crashed into him while skiing in Utah at what is described as one of the most luxurious ski resorts in America, Deer Valley Resort, is set to go forward.
A 76 year old retired optometrist named Terry Sanderson is seeking $300,000 in damages for physical injuries and emotional distress from Gwyneth Paltrow alleging that the actress and her friends were acting “recklessly” when they knocked him down while skiing and proceeded to continue on their way.
According to the lawsuit, “Gwyneth Paltrow skied out of control, knocking him down hard, knocking him out, and causing a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries. Paltrow got up, turned and skied away, leaving Sanderson stunned, lying in the snow, seriously injured.”

Gwyneth Paltrow, for her part, says that Sanderson was himself to blame for the accident. He lawyers stated, “Ms. Paltrow remembers what happened very clearly. She was enjoying skiing with her family on vacation in Utah, when Plaintiff — who was uphill from Ms. Paltrow — plowed into her back. Ms. Paltrow was angry with Plaintiff, and said so. Plaintiff apologized.”
The plaintiff “admits he does not remember what happened,” said Paltrow’s lawyers and he previously filed a suit for more than $3 million in damages, but a judge ruled that he was not entitled to any punitive damages and so can only sue for $300,000.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s lawyers also stated the Plaintiff already had multiple health issues including vision problems.
The New York Post cited a “source close to Paltrow” saying that Gwyneth Paltrow will testify in her own defense. But there is nothing exceptional about that since in civil suits the respondent can be forced to testify if called by the plaintiff.
