Ivan Reitman, producer of the sports movie Draft Day, has won his appeal to have the movie classed as PG-13, meaning that a larger and younger audience will now be able to enjoy it.
Draft Day, to be distributed by Lionsgate films, stars Hollywood veteran Kevin Costner as well as Dennis Leary and Jennifer Garner, was initially branded with a R rating from after it was pointed out that the movie contained a brief smattering of ” strong language” which could of had a negative effect on a young and impressionable teenage audience.
However, after Reitman and his colleague at Lionsgate Erik Feig presented themselves at a recent appeal hearing the succeed in convincing the Classification and Rating Appeals Board to lower Draft Day’s rating to a PG-13, meaning that anyone over the age of 13 can now view the movie when it hits the movie theaters in early April.
Draft Day is the latest in a series of joint ventures between Reitman and Costner and follows the fictional story of a Cleveland Browns general manager who successful in acquiring the top pick in the NFL Draft and faced with the consequent dilemma on how to shape the future of his franchise.
In an effort to make Draft Day as authentic as possible, Ivan Reitman received very strong cooperation from the NFL, with a film featuring actual game highlights shot in secure NFL locations, genuine footage from last year’s NFL Draft and even a cameo appearance from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell himself.

Ivan Reitman was born in Komárno, Czechoslovakia, the son of Holocaust survivors. When aged just four, in 1950, Ivan moved with his family to settle in Toronto, Canada
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in music from McMaster University in Toronto, Reitman began his career in the movie industry initially by directing short films, gradually becoming involved in full length movies.
By the end of the 1970s, Reitman or become a regarded as one of the most talented and versatile young producers/directors on the Hollywood scene, largely due to his success in producing the cult movie National Lampoon’s Animal House in 1978.
Ivan followed that success up through directing the comedy film Meatballs which starred Bill Murray. During the 80s and early 90s Reitman either produced or directed some of Hollywood’s most successful comedies including Stripes , Ghostbusters, Legal Eagles, Twins with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito and the highly successful follow-up Ghostbusters II.
From the early 1990s, Reitman became less active in the hands-on movie direction, preferring to take on the role of executive producer in his own production company, Northern Lights Entertainment.
