None other than Chelsea Handler hosted the Critics Choice Awards Sunday night. Awards shows are not as popular as they once were and even the Oscars has been having trouble finding an audience. So the shows try to be sure to have as entertaining a host as possible so that viewers will tune in even if they do not care about the nominees or even the genre.
So, no one has ever or would ever accuse Chelsea Handler of being modest, or subdued, or afraid of expressing her opinions. And Sunday was no different. On the people who talk about Hollywood being run by Jews she said, “I would like to say, as a Jewish woman, so what if they do? Who cares? The French run bakeries, Italians run the mafia and Swedish people run Ikea. Stay in your lane!” Someone should tell Dave Chappelle about this.
Chelsea Handler did not shy away from political controversies. She made this comment about the U.S. Supreme Court’s striking down a woman’s right to have an abortion in America.

“I’m just happy to be here tonight supporting the critics’ right to choose. At least someone still has a choice. Unless they’re a female critic and then it depends on what state they live in.”
She has also been vocal about wanting to do a talk show again, but not getting any offers. This may be why she took shots at a few of the more popular talk show hosts. In a slam at Ellen DeGeneres she said, “In Tár, Cate (Blanchet) portrayed an iconic lesbian whose career is upended by her toxic behavior,”, “And she didn’t even have to host her own daytime talk show.”
Turning on another talk show host, Chelsea Handler said, “The cast of The Bear is here. Awesome show. They showed us how grueling and hellish and absolutely miserable working in the restaurant industry can be, and they didn’t have to wait on James Corden.” The comment was in reference to how Corden has been banned from fancy New York restaurant Balthazar. The owner Keith McNally publicly humiliated the “Late, Late Show” host calling him the “most abusive customer” his staff had encountered in 25 years. The Bear is about a small restaurant in Chicago.
Chelsea Handler went on to call 2023 a “breakout year for queer cinema, with movies like Bros, Fire Island, and Top Gun: Maverick.” The original Top Gun Movie from 1986 is known for what has been described as the “gayest” volleyball game ever played on screen.
