George Santos

It’s official! George Santos is a liar! The Congressman Elect from Long Island has admitted it. He even lied about his grandparents being Holocaust survivors and now people are wondering if Santos has any Jewish roots at all.

So, you may be asking, “a lying congressman, so what else is new?” Good Point.

Well, what exactly did George Santos say? He told the New York Post, “I am not a criminal. This [controversy] will not deter me from having good legislative success. I will be effective. I will be good.”

“My sins here are embellishing my resume. I’m sorry,” George Santos said.

The New York Times found that George Santos fabricated some of his claims about his business The Devolder Organization. Santos also made claims about working for financial firms Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, but neither has any record of his ever having been employed by them. He also lied about where he went to school.

He also told WABC radio host John Catsimatidis, “I am not a criminal. Not here, not abroad, in any jurisdiction in the world have I ever committed any crimes.” The “I am not a crook” line sounds like Richard Nixon and was said in response to speculation that in lying about having gone to certain schools when he didn’t or about jobs that he never actually had could be considered an act of fraud.

So, on that matter, George Santos commented, “To get down to the nit and gritty, I’m not a fraud. I’m not a criminal who defrauded the entire country and made up this fictional character and ran for Congress. I’ve been around a long time. I mean, a lot of people know me. They know who I am. They’ve done business dealings with me.”

“I’m not going to make excuses for this,” he added, “but a lot of people overstate in their resumes, or twist a little bit. I’m not saying I’m not guilty of that.”
