Joe Lieberman, after a career in the public sector lasting more than 40 years, including one unsuccessful attempt to become democratic Vice President in the 2000 elections, is now settling comfortably into the private sector.

Lieberman, who left his post as Senator for the State of Connecticut almost exactly a year ago has reportedly been coaxed by his former protégé Brendan Carroll, co-founder and partner of Victory Park Capital to take up the role of chairman of the company’s executive board.

Announcing his agreement to accept the post Joe Lieberman pointed out in a statement to the press that while he was serving in the U.S. Senate, he fought for policies that would allow small businesses to thrive.

“I look forward to a long-term partnership with Victory Park Capital that will position the firm for continued growth.” Former Senator Lieberman summed up.

Joe Lieberman has known Brendan Carroll for close to 20 years, for becoming acquainted when Carroll, served as a member of staff in Mr. Lieberman’s office while he was studying American government at Georgetown University. Since then they have kept in touch, with Carroll even taking a leave of absence from investment bank Robertson Stephens w to become a member of Joe Lieberman’s team during his 2000 vice presidential campaign.

Since then Brendan Carroll founded Victory Park Capital with his partners Richard Levy, Matthew Ray and Jordan Allen. Victory Park specializes in investing in covering a broad spectrum of industry, specializing in utility industry such as oil and gas as well as the US-based airline industry.

According to Mr Carrol, Victory Park Capital will be able to take full benefit from Mr. Joe Lieberman’s extensive experience and regulatory issues. Leiberman also joined the New York-based law firm Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman in New York in the summer of last year.

Joe Lieberman graduated with a B.A. in economics as well as political science from Yale University in 1964 going on to attend attended Yale Law School, where he received his law degree in 1967.

After graduating from Yale Law School, Lieberman began his professional career with Wiggin & Dana LLP, based in New Haven-based.

Just three years later when aged just 28, Lieberman was elected as a “reform Democrat” to the Connecticut Senate, going on to serve three terms as Majority Leader. After standing unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1980, Lieberman was appointed Attorney General for the state of Connecticut a position he held between between 1983 to 1989. Lieberman was elected as Senator for the State of Connecticut in 1989, also being re-elected in 1994 and 2000 for the Democratic Party.

The peak of Lieberman’s political career came when he was the nominee for the post of Vice President in the 2000 United States presidential election, acting as running mate for presidential nominee Al Gore. Joe Lieberman was the first candidate of Jewish faith ever to run on a major American political party presidential ticket. In the election Gore was narrowly defeated by President George W. Bush.

Whilst running for re-election for the Senate in 2006, failed to win the election to become a candidate on behalf of the Democratic Party primary election. However he succeeded in being reelected on a third-party ticket under the label “Connecticut for Lieberman”. Lieberman did not stand for election in 2013.
