Following “an escalation in Iranian intentions to harm Israelis in Turkey, the National Anti-Terrorism Division at the National Security Headquarters (NSC) today (Monday) raised the level of the travel warning for Istanbul to level 4, which is the highest level. Israeli citizens are advised to leave the country as soon as possible and those who are planning to go – to avoid traveling to Turkey.

The Anti-Terrorism Division says, “Because Iran’s plans to hurt Israelis in Turkey, especially in Istanbul, are still a threat and are getting worse, the National Security Headquarters has raised the warning level for a trip to Istanbul to Level 4.”

In the rest of Turkey, there is a level 3 (medium) travel warning, and therefore the National Security Council has advised Israelis to avoid unessential travel to other parts of the country.

However, the Anti-Terrorism Division stressed that there is no impediment to making flights with a “connection” landing in Istanbul as long as there is no exit from the airport.

Two weeks ago, Israelis were warned about travel to Turkey, following fears of Iranian attempts to harm Israeli citizens around the world, with an emphasis on Turkey. “For several weeks now, and even more so since Iran blamed Israel for the death of the Revolutionary Guards officer last week, there has been a growing fear in the security establishment of Iranian attempts to harm Israeli targets around the world,” the National Security Council said in a statement.

Yesterday reported that Turkish intelligence has uncovered a network of Iranian agents whose goal is to harm Israelis in the country.
