Liberal billionaire George Soros claims that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has “shaken Europe to its core” and might lead to the next global conflict.
In a lecture at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Soros said, “Other global challenges, such as battling pandemics and climate change, preventing nuclear war, and sustaining global institutions – have all been pushed aside in favor of this struggle,” Soros concluded, “That’s why I say our civilization may not survive.”

Soros, a Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor, focused his speech on the rise of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “repressive regimes” and Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling these two countries “the biggest threat to an open society.” His charity, the Open Society Funds, funds groups that work to promote justice, democracy, human rights, and advanced political views.
The two leaders made “huge mistakes,” Soros said. “Putin expected him to be welcomed as a liberator of Ukraine; Xi Jinping adhered to a zero-krona policy that could not be adhered to.” The ongoing closures in China will cause disruptions in supply chains, leading to global inflation remaining high and leading to a global economic downturn, he said. He added that Shai’s mistakes could cost him his third term.
According to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, Soros’s personal wealth is valued at $ 8.5 billion. The 91-old shut down his hedge fund in 2011 and transformed it into a family business, investing solely in his own funds, those of his family members, and a network of charitable organizations.
