Larry David was one of many celebrities to do a Super Bowl commercial this year. Super Bowl Sunday has become the day of the year when companies release their most entertaining commercials, some of which are even released online before the big game. And in some years the ads are more entertaining than the game itself.
This year Larry David did a commercial for FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange. Now, if you know anything about Larry David then you know that the man always gets everything wrong. He always makes the wrong decision. This may seem hard to believe considering that he did co-create the most successful comedy of all time, “Seinfeld.” But it is.
On Seinfeld, the character of George Costanza was based on Larry David. And George had to always lose at the end of the day, or there would not have been a joke. And the same thins is true for Larry David’ hit HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Larry David on the show is always clueless, behind the times, out of touch and out of step. And the FTX Super Bowl ad plays off on this.

The commercial begins with Larry David telling the inventor of the wheel that it would never get off the ground. It then shows him “nay saying” every important invention in history, from the fork, to the toilet (civilized people will only ever poop outdoors he declares), the electric light bulb, and even the Walkman because people won’t want to have to keep on using so many batteries. Obviously, this is all meant to play off of how so many people criticize crypto currencies and say that they are a bad investment with no intrinsic value.

“Nah, I don’t think so,” is what Larry David has to say at the end about FTX and Cryptos in general. “And I’m never wrong about this stuff. Ever.” The commercial ends with FTX telling the world, “Don’t be like Larry!”
