Ella Emhoff made headlines for the outfit which she wore ate Joe Biden’s Presidential inauguration in January. The step-daughter of Vice President Kamala Harris has since been touted as a possible future fashion star. Well now she has made her official runway debut for American label Proenza Schouler at the New York Fashion Week.
She wore a Miu Miu Coat while sitting in the cold outside during her step-mother’s inauguration. Then that night she and step-cousin Meena Harris wore similar evening gowns.

Now she has sold the first of her own designs. Emhoff showcased five knitted items, priced between $160 and $320. These included two sweater vests, a purse, a long sleeveless dress and a pair of shorts.
Shortly after becoming an official part of America’s second family, the 21 year old Emhoff was signed to a deal with IMG Models. IMG boasts a who’s who of top models as clients. This includes supermodels Karlie Kloss, Bündchen and the sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid.
Ironically, Karlie Kloss was connected to the previous first family. She is the sister-in-law of former first daughter Ivanka Trump. And Ivanka Trump herself had been a model over the years. But she did not need to be “discovered” only after her father took office. But she did have the benefit of being in the public eye for her entire life.

Ella Emhoff spoke with NYFW at Spring Studios in New York in which she expressed being a bit nervous before her first ever catwalk. “I definitely lost a little sleep the night before,” she told Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. “I mean I’m walking for the first time, I’m in a professional environment for the first time. It was a very epic first experience with the fashion world.”
But Emhoff also said that she always thought about one day becoming her own designer. “For a really long time when i was younger I wanted to be a designer,” she said. “Then I took it a little more seriously, I started taking courses at Central Saint Martins over two summers. It definitely exposed me to the intensity of design school.”
