Blues musician Charlie Parr for the first time in Israel

Charlie Parr is making his first visit to Israel as part of an upcoming tour for his new album “Dog”. This is Parr’s 13th studio album

Charlie Parr is a country blues singer and guitar player, who is making his first visit to Israel as part of an upcoming tour for his new album “Dog”. This is Parr’s 13th studio album, which has launched to critical acclaim.

Parr marries two nearly impossible polar aspects in his music – virtuous guitar strumming that yet produces a raw, authentic country blues sound at its best. The manner with which he moves a slide along his resonator guitar is full of both an eruptive force and the precision of a knife. On the banjo he is still full of expression. His lyrics are blues for the advanced, touching on the most difficult and personal moments, and describing social phenomena Parr comes across in his cross-country journeys. He follows in the footsteps of the country blues tradition and the “Folk Revival”, and sings in a deep belly tone about life itself.

Charlie Parr was born in America’s back yard, in the state of Minnesota, to a pair of parents who worked as line workers at a meat factory. He dropped out of school, barely graduated college, and stumbled between various odd jobs. His first guitar at the age of 7 was a gift from his father, who also introduced him to the music which would one day run through his veins – Elizabeth Cotten, “Son” House, Charlie Patton and more.

By his early 20’s Parr had already realized that this was his life’s purpose, with playing and writing music providing his livelihood, form of communication and source of strength to cope with the hardships of life.

The complete and utter sincerity that characterizes Charlie Parr’s work and public persona, has managed to bring his music into the hearts of many. Several of his songs were featured in the Australian drama film Red Hill (2010). He is married to Emily Parr, who occasionally adds vocals to his music

Charlie Parr’s visit to Israel was made possible by Yamit Hagar the founder of the Tel-Aviv Blues Festival which is taking place this year for the fifth time.
