Television broadcasts in Southern California were interrupted just after 11:00 AM Thursday by an ominous voice with an end-of-the-world message.
Customers from Spectrum Cable and Cox Communications TV in Orange County said it was started with emergency alerts flashed across the TV screens. A man’s voice was reportedly heard saying: “Realize this, extremely violent times will come.”

Another man’s voice said gasping according to a video uploaded to YouTube, “The space program made contact with … They are not what they claim to be. They have infiltrated a lot of, uh, a lot of aspects of military establishment, particularly Area 51. The disasters that are coming—the military—I’m sorry the government knows about them …”. This voice seemed to be a recording of a call in 1997 to radio show “Coast to Coast AM.” This man was claiming to be a former Area 51 employee, according to Gizmodo reported.
After several minutes of the emergency alert showing on the screen, televisions renew their scheduled programming.
A Cox spokesperson, Todd Smith, told the press that the company believes its system got the message after a radio station or multiple stations were conducting their monthly emergency test, which cable networks piggyback on. Usually, radio stations transmit an end “tone” to complete their alerts. However, this time, it seems no such tone was transmitted.
he said that when Cox technicians became aware of the alert, they shut it down.
It remains unclear why the audio warning of ‘extremely violent times’ was picked up with the alert.
