China’s UN Ambassador on Tuesday at a press conference called on the international community to support President Xi Jinping’s new peace plan to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and establish an independent Palestinian state. China will focus on the attempt to move toward an agreed solution based the four principles, the Associated Press reported.
Xi signaled China’s growing involvement in the Middle East when he met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Beijing two weeks ago. Liu Jieyi said that China’s future diplomatic efforts would focus on trying to move toward a negotiated solution based on the four proposals.
The four-point peace plan was first presented by Xi in 2013. The first two points are: advancing the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a new Palestinian state;

And, strengthening the “concept of comprehensive and sustainable security in cooperation,” an immediate halt to construction in the settlements, taking immediate steps to prevent violence against civilians and calling for the rapid resumption of negotiations.
The two additional points are: coordinated international efforts to present “measures to promote peace, which involve a joint meeting at a close date”;
And promoting peace through the development and cooperation of the Palestinians and Israel.
The ambassador added that China views both Israel and the Palestinians as “important partners” on its initiative, called “one belt, one way.” The project is funded by a large-scale Chinese project to develop transportation routes, including ports, railways, and roads, to increase trade with a broad range of countries throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe.
He also said that China had proposed “a tripartite dialogue mechanism of China-Palestine-Israel to coordinate the implementation of the largest aid programs in Palestine.”
Liu said China plans to hold a seminar this year for Israeli and Palestinian peace activists to “contribute to the settlement of the Palestinian issue.” He called on the international community “to respond favorably to China’s proposals because we believe that these four principles if fully implemented, will significantly help resolve the issue through negotiations and contribute to the stability of relations between the two sides.”
Already during Abu Mazen’s visit to Beijing two weeks ago, the Chinese president proposed a tripartite Israeli-Palestinian-Sinai meeting to promote peace in the Middle East. Abu Mazen said in response that he supports this.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited China about four months ago, and the Palestinian issue was also discussed at the press conference held at the People’s Hall in the Chinese capital. “China has no interest in the Israeli-Palestinian issue, but we would like to see the conflict resolved in a timely manner,” said Deng Li, director of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the UN and the international consensus.
