Gartner names Israeli cyber startup empow “cool vendor”

Forbes recently singled out empow’s technology as one of the few disruptive technologies at RSA, in the “software-defined cybersecurity” arena.

A pioneering cybersecurity startup empow has been recognized as a “Cool Vendor” in the Monitoring and Management of Threats to Applications and Data 2017 report by Gartner, Inc.

The Gartner report notes that “security and risk management leaders often focus on point solutions for prevention, with the unattainable objective of blocking 100% of threats.” According to the report which recognizes empow, “new services aim to change this dynamic by continuously assessing and managing security procedures, infrastructure, vulnerabilities and techniques.” The report also provides several recommendations for security and risk management leaders, stating that they should “commit to deploying advanced analytics and machine learning on top of existing security infrastructure to reduce the noise and false positives in security systems.”

Founded in October 2014 in Tel Aviv – with funding from the Office of the Chief Scientist – empow’s founder and CEO Avi Chesla aid: “Given the heightened risks the world faces, and the commensurate level of investment, there is a true need for continued innovation. With that foremost in our minds, we are honored to be named a ‘Cool Vendor’ by Gartner. Our intent-focused approach, coupled with security abstraction, is the next logical step in the evolution of the SOC; allowing security teams to better deal with enormous amounts of data, while achieving better security with less complexity.

“We believe this distinction from Gartner also indicates that the industry is recognizing the importance of bringing deep learning and AI to the task of optimizing complex – and often chaotic – security systems, in order to decipher an attacker’s intent so that the right tools can be utilized at the right time,” added Chesla.

empow masterminds an organization’s security response, maximizing the investments it has already made by optimizing and orchestrating existing security tools. empow’s prescriptive analytics engine analyzes each security event identified by existing tools, understands the intent behind the event in correlation with other events and third-party threat research centers, and then executes the optimal investigation and/or mitigation actions to neutralize advanced attack campaigns. In this way, empow simplifies the process of managing a security apparatus with too much data and too many alerts – creating a small set of strategic rules as opposed to the hundreds or thousands found in most SIEM systems. empow simultaneously automates and accelerates optimal incident response, maximizing an organization’s security ROI.

“empow is like a cyber general who understands the capabilities of his disparate troops, knows how to identify tactics and techniques used by his enemy, and coordinates the security arsenal accordingly, making a cybersecurity configuration exponentially better than the sum of its parts,” said Chesla. “For overburdened security professionals, this is a real game-changer. We are thrilled that Gartner recognized our notable approach.”
