Michael Bloomberg Backed Group Fights Donald Trump on Immigration

MIchael Bloomberg 8th wealthiest man in the world

An organization led by billionaire philanthropist Michael Bloomberg is fighting back against President Donald Trump’s harsh immigration policies. The Partnership for a New American Economy is an advocacy group for immigration reform in America.

After the Federal courts struck down his travel ban on citizens of seven Muslim nations, Donald Trump declared his intention to issue a new reworded order. At the same time, America’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) has been cracking down on illegals immigrants. Its agents have been busy arresting for deportation undocumented people across the U.S., in accordance with new policies on immigration enforcement imposed by President Trump.

The new policies have been met with controversy and criticism, to say the least. And Michael Bloomberg’s Partnership for a New American Economy has been working hard to make a case for why the undocumented workers are actually good for the economy.

It is not surprising that Michael Bloomberg is spending money on an organization which fights against Donald Trump’s political policies. The former mayor of New York was a vocal critic of Donald Trump during the 2016 elections and even spoke at the Democratic convention in spite of being a Republican. Unlike Trump, Michael Bloomberg is a truly self made man and a genuine success in the world of business.

President Obama worked toward immigration reform and promised to help people who lived most of their lives in America without a legal status become citizens. But under President Trump, even these people who are known as “Dreamers” have been included in the recent round ups of illegal immigrants. This has angered immigration advocates, like Michael Bloomberg, who wish to explain to the American public how these immigrants actually aid the economy.

To that end, The Partnership for a New American Economy released Map the Impact, an interactive map showcasing the contributions of immigrants in all 435 Congressional districts, the 55 largest U.S. metro areas, all 50 states, and industry sectors across the economy. Users can simply go to the map and click on their state or city to find out more about immigrants in their area.

“This data puts the economic power of America’s immigrants in stark relief,” said John Feinblatt, Chairman of The Partnership for a New American Economy. “Across the map, and in every industry, immigrants strengthen the economies of big cities and small towns alike.”

Jeremy Robbins, executive director of Partnership for a New American Economy, told Politico, “Immigration is top of the agenda politically, but the national discussion often bears little resemblance to the facts on the ground. In community after community and industry after industry, immigration is helping America and American workers.”

The Partnership for a New American Economy brings together more than 500 Republican, Democratic and Independent mayors and business leaders who support immigration reforms that will help create jobs for Americans today. NAE members include mayors of more than 35 million people nationwide and business leaders of companies that generate more than $1.5 trillion and employ more than 4 million people across all sectors of the economy, from Agriculture to Aerospace, Hospitality to High Tech and Media to Manufacturing.

Michael Bloomberg founded the organization together with a group of fellow current and former mayors of major American cities. One of its co-chairs, ironically, is Rupert Murdoch who founded Fox News. Murdoch is himself an immigrant to the U.S. and a naturalized citizen.
