While acquitted for the murder of Morris Black in Texas back in 2001, Robert Durst confessed to dismembering his body. Now Durst is on trial in Los Angeles for the 2000 murder of Durst’s close friend Susan Berman. Prosecutors argue that Durst killed Berman to keep her from revealing his guilt in the murder of his wife. Now they say that this is reason enough to be concerned for the safety of anyone who will testify in court against Robert Durst. This, even though, Durst is currently in jail as he awaits trial.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Deputy District Attorney John Lewin told the judge, “That man kills witnesses. That’s what he does. When pushed into a corner, he murders people.”

The 73 year old Robert Durst reportedly laughed when those words were spoken.

Durst’s lawyer David Chesnoff accused the prosecution of trying to railroad his client saying, “We’re in a very complicated case with experienced lawyers who are not going to sit by and say it’s OK to steamroll Mr. Durst.”
