Is Jewish Player Guy Zinn’s 100 year Old Baseball Card Worth $125, 000? Well one collector thought so, provided that it was in the proper condition that is.

According to The New York Times, Jeff Aeder, a Chicago real estate developer and sports memorabilia collector offered that much for Guy Zinn’s 1914 card. He said that if Zinn had not been Jewish then his baseball card would be worth less than a tenth of that.

Aeder told the Times, “If Zinn was not a Jewish player, this card is probably worth $10, 000. It really is something that if you have the means and the obsession, then someone pays a lot more than it’s worth.”

Other than his Judaism, Guy Zinn was only exceptional for being the first man to have an official Major League at bat at Boston’s historic Fenway Park when it first opened in 1914. He did so as a player for the then New York Highlanders of the American League.

Zinn played all of five years of Major League ball. His first two were with the New York Highlanders, now the Yankees. Then after a single season with Boston he played for two years with the Baltimore Terrapins of the short lived Federal League.

According to the Times, Aeder rescinded his offer when the card was not in as good condition as he believed. This has led to a dispute with its current owner Dan McKee.
