“Why Him, ” James Franco‘s new movie, has been panned by the critics. Meanwhile the actor is rumored to have been cast in the upcoming “Alien: Covenant” Alien movies prequel.
The movie review site Rotten Tomatoes has given “Why Him” only a 45% rating. It stars Franco as a strange tech billionaire who meets his girlfriend’s father played by Bryan Cranston. Since Cranston’s character of course does not like Franco, hilarity is supposed to ensue.

The Hollywood Reporter said, “The result is an efficient, but grim and cynical machine of a comedy: You’ll laugh, but it’ll likely be a visceral response to the sheer, bullying spectacle of it all rather than a reaction of genuine amusement. And you’ll hate yourself in the morning.”
But Vanity Fair really liked James Franco’s performance saying, “Franco does a marvelous balancing act—playing dumb, then kicking back on his good looks. It should be annoying, but it isn’t. This isn’t just winging it—this is very refined craft. A character with blithe irresponsibility is, for Franco, clay with which to mold something beautiful. This isn’t all the director, writer, and performer does, but like the Rolling Stones returning to a simple blues, when he does it, there’s a perfection few can top.”
Hopefully for James Franco “Alien: Covenant” will be a better movie. Fan site AvPGalaxy reports, “Franco will be appearing in ‘Alien: Covenant’ as Branson, the captain of the Covenant and husband of Katherine Waterson’s [character] Daniels.”
