Gloria Steinem Slams Donald Trump

” I’d lost faith in American exceptionalism.”

gloria-steinem

Gloria Steinem is not happy with Donald Trump’s election. The femnist icon made her feelings known at an exhibition of Annie Leibovitz portraits of famous women.

Speaking before the event held at the old the Bayview Correctional Facility, a former women’s prison in Chelsea, Manhattan, Gloria Steinmen said, “I think that what has been revealed to us is a truth that we must now deal with. Never again is anyone going to say ‘post-feminist’ or ‘post-racist’ because we [now] understand that there is something like a third of the country that is still locked into these old hierarchies.”

Gloria Steinem’s harshest words compared Donald Trump’s victory to a woman escaping an abusive relationship. “The moment just before escaping or just after escaping is the most dangerous time. I think we are at a time of maximum danger in this country and we need to look out for each other.”

The feminist writer did not wait until now to speak out against Donald Trump. Just after the election Gloria Steinem told John Hockenberry, host of The Takeaway, “I’m not going to disobey the law, but I’m not going to pretend he [Trump] represents me.”
