Senator Al Franken has joined the chorus of people who are slamming the latest Donald Trump ad for being anti-Semitic. He is also calling for a Senate investigation of FBI Director James Comey.
All right. You are probably asking so what? Al Franken is a liberal Democrat and a big Hillary Clinton supporter so of course he is saying this. You are right.

“When I saw the [Trump] ad, I thought that this was something of a German shepherd whistle, a dog-whistle, to a certain group in the United States, ” said Senator Franken. “I think, I’m Jewish, so maybe I’m sensitive to it, but it clearly had sort of Elders of Zion kind of feel to it, international banking crisis, uh, plot, or conspiracy rather, and then a number of Jews.”
Franken made the comments while appearing on the CNN program “State of the Union” on Sunday.
He left no doubt that in his opinion Donald Trump is to blame for inciting such hatred. Senator Franken added, “It’s an appeal to some of the worst elements in our country as his closing argument, and I think that people who aren’t sensitive to that or don’t know that history may not see that in that, but that’s what I immediately saw.”

The former Saturday Night Live star is also talking about how unprofessional he feels FBI Director James Comey has been in the way that he handled the latest Hillary Clinton e mail investigation. Clinton dropped in the polls and saw several “safe” states change to “in play” over last week after Comey revealed that more e mails were found on Anthony Weiner’s computer as part of a different investigation. Weiner is of course the estranged husband of senior Clinton aid Huma Abeden.
Senator Franken said, “I think that there should be hearings [on Comey], and I’m certain there will be hearings in the Judiciary Committee on this matter.”
“Even more troubling is what we’ve heard from sort of the rogue elements of the FBI seemingly tipping off former [New York City] Mayor Giuliani that something was up, ” added the Minnesota Senator. I mean, it just seems like that’s not the FBI.”
Showing a confidence in the election results Franken added that, “We will have hearings. I’m sure that FBI Director Comey will be before us. I think he should be able to answer questions about this, and he should be able to control the FBI.”
That may make a good sound bite. But Al Franken knows that there will only be hearings on the matter should the Democrats win back control of the Senate. And even if that happens and Hillary Clinton wins there may not be any desire on the part of the Democrats to keep the whole Hillary Clinton e mail scandal alive.
