Bill Maher interviewed President Barack Obama on his HBO show “Real Time” on Friday night. Well actually the Maher-Obama interview was done in the White House on Tuesday, but it aired on Friday night.
It took long enough. Maher has been whining for months about how President Obama has been seen on just about everyone else’s talk show but his. He has made multiple appearances on Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and other talk shows in the President’s nearly eight years in office. Barack Obama has even been on Zach Galifinikis’ internet show “Between the Two Ferns” and a week ago he appeared on Samantha Bee’s show “Full Frontal” on TBS.

Bill Maher, for his part, was especially annoyed by this since he donated $1 million to President Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. And Maher was very public with both that donation and his annoyance with the President for avoiding him.
The President spoke to Bill Maher about a number of issues from the current election, to legalizing marijuana to his own legacy.
As for the so called undecided voters, the President clearly falls into the “a protest vote is a vote for Donald Trump” camp.
President Barack Obama told Maher, “Every single issue we’ve made progress on in the last eight years is going to be on the ballot in the form of this choice. Anybody who’s sitting on the sidelines right now, or deciding to engage in a protest vote, that’s a vote for Trump. And that would be badly damaging for this country and badly damaging for the world.”
And President Obama was able to make light of his own image in the polls while also taking a shot at how misinformed people out there really are saying, “If you don’t have some common baseline of facts, it’s very hard to figure out how we move democracy forward. If I watched fox news I wouldn’t vote for myself either.”

Finally President Obama told Bill Maher that he does watch “Real Time” on occasion. And then Maher spent the rest of his show talking about what a nightmare a Donald Trump presidency would be.
