The Chicago Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years last night and the faithful have one man to thank for it: The Messiah Theo Epstein.
It ended just how it should have: A nail biter in extra innings in game seven.

No more jokes about the Cubs not winning until the Messiah actually does come. No more jokes about how if the Cubs were to play the Red Sox in the World Series no one would win. And all thanks to Theo Epstein.

The final score was 8-7 Cubs in ten innings. They came back from a 3-1 deficit to win three games in a row including the last two on the road. They blew a 6-3 lead in the 8th and failed to score with a man on third with one out in the ninth. They clung to an 8-6 lead in the bottom of the tenth and saw the seventh run come across the plate and the tying run on base. But the Cubs did the impossible and won.
And who do we thank for this? Theo Epstein, of course.

Yes that Theo Epstein.
The one who brought Boston its first World Series Championship in 86 years back in 2004. That’s when the Red Sox, a team which he built as general manager, first overcame a 3-0 deficit against the hated News York Yankees in the American League Pennant to win in seven games and go on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in The World Series.
After a second championship three years later, Theo decided to move on to Chicago to work his magic again. Ironically, the Cleveland Indians were managed by Terry Francona who also managed the Red Sox to the championship back in 2004.

There were a combined 176 consecutive losing seasons between the Indians and the Cubs. The Cubs had not even played in a World Series since losing in 1945, and hat not won it all since 1908. As for Cleveland, it had not been to the Series for 20 years and lost twice in the 1990s. The team has not won since 1948.
Now Cleveland takes over as the team with the longest losing streak in baseball, since 1948. Eight teams — all expansion teams — have never won at all with the longest streak among them belonging to the Texas Rangers who were founded in 1961 as the second Washington Senators franchise. And three teams have never even made it to the Series with the oldest of them being the Seattle Mariners, founded in 1977.

So go out there and party Cubs fans. Everyone in Chicago take the rest of the week off. You deserve it. You earned it.
And if Theo Epstein now goes over to Cleveland and gets them a championship too then he should be ready to start his own religion with himself as the prophet. Few people would be able to argue that Theo does not have some sort of special connection with God.
