The Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (VT-I) in Madison, Wisconsin on Wednesday and in Dearborn, Mich. on Thursday warned voters that billionaire GOP donors, including casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and rothers Charles and David Koch, are “literally” trying to buy the United States government.
“What we are seeing, right now, are the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson and these other multibillionaires literally trying to buy the United States government.” said the failed presidential candidate. “That’s what they’re doing. They’re spending hundreds of millions of dollars all over this country. Turn on your TV and you see an ad. Understand who is paying for that ad. It’s not some phony front group: Citizens for This, Citizens for That. It’s is the Koch brothers. It is Sheldon Adelson.” [Washington Examiner]

The “greatest challenge” the United States is facing is “a movement toward oligarchy” and that, “the Koch brothers are recognized to have more political power than the whole Republican party.” Sanders pledged, “we will not allow the Koch brothers to buy the U.S. government, we will not allow that to happen, ” and “we need an economy that works for the working class not the 1%.” [PR Watch]
Here is one of the interesting ironies. There are lists of many very wealthy people who have come forward and said: Sure, I want a tax break. Everybody wants a tax break. But you know what, there are other priorities in this country, and I don’t need it. Two of the wealthiest people in the world–and these are billionaires–Bill Gates of Microsoft and Warren Buffett of Berkshire, say: It is absurd. We don’t need a tax break. [Sanders.Senate]
