“Even though Allyn wanted a recreation of the famous palace at Versailles, which is exactly what the first and second floor look like, she has a son and a daughter and they often visit us. So the third floor has a theater and a karaoke bar, ” Barry told the Las Vegas Sun.
The Shulmans saw it as a wedding gift. Barry and Allyn were so taken with the Palace of Versailles, on their honeymoon in France, that they decided to build their own version as their home in Las Vegas. “We found a designer who could design exactly that, ” Shulman told WSJ.
According to Concierge Auctions, the Shulmans paid $2.5 million for the property in 2004 before it had even been converted. Then they spent an additional $5 million for renovations. Altogether they spent around $8 million including custom-made furniture.
The couple spent the $5 million to give it a “Versailles” theme, worthy of the French royal Bourbons. Although Barry admits that the style won’t be to everyone’s taste, it was what his wife, possibly she was Marie Antoinette in a previous incarnation, wanted.”
Allyn Shulman’s own poker victory last season puts the whole family at the forefront of the poker scene. Barry and his son, Jeff, also made the final table in their respective tournaments,

Las Vegas Sun reports that Allyn started her way in poker when she first wagered $1, 000 in last year’s Seniors Championship at the World Series of Poker – and then walked away with $603, 713.
The cashier looked at Allyn Shulman and asked if she “would like it in cash.”
“I didn’t even know what $600, 000 looks like, ” Shulman told Las Vegas Sun. “It was absolutely a sterling moment in my life.”
The couple, together have accumulated almost $6.5 million between them in live tournament winnings.
In 2009 WSOP Main Event final table, Barry’s son Jeff Shulman, was eliminated in fifth place, cashing in for just under $2 million.
