Led Zeppelin didn’t steal music for ‘Stairway to Heaven, ‘ jury decides

Led Zeppelin did not steal the opening riff of one of rock’s giant iconic hit “Stairway to Heaven, ” a Los Angeles jury has found Thursday, clearing the iconic band of accusations of plagiarism. Stairway to Heaven was released in 1971.

The unanimous decision by the panel said the lawyer representing the estate of late guitarist Randy Wolfe did not prove that the band lifted the intro from Spirit’s instrumental “Taurus, ” from 1968.

The prosecution had argued Led Zeppelin became familiar with Spirit’s song after the two bands played on the same bill in Plant’s hometown at a club in the English city of Birmingham in 1970.
