Phoenix may joins the likes of Willem Dafoe, Jim Caviezel, Robert Powell, and Max Von Sydow, who have all played Christ, while New Zealand actor Cliff Curtis took on the role in this year’s (16) Risen.

Production is set to being in the summer for an anticipated release in 2017.
The film’s production company See-Saw Films, led by Emile Sherman and Iain Canning, whose credits include “The King’s Speech”, is teaming with Universal Pictures Intl Productions on the project, reported Variety.
