Critics took to Twitter to blast Alex Salmond, the former first minister of Scotland and currently the United Kingdom’s representative to the European Commission, for saying that it was “inappropriate” for Israel to criticize Europe’s welcome of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during a Holocaust commemoration event. Salmond, who recently returned from a trip to Iran, made the comments to the Council of Europe on the same day that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei released a Holocaust denial video.
Salmond’s controversial remarks and the negative reactions to them were first reported byThe Telegraph, which wrote on Friday that “experienced figures from other parties questioned [Salmond’s] judgment on the international stage and claimed his comments created the impression of him being an unofficial spokesman for the Iranian regime.”
It seems buffoon Salmond is following Galloway and Wight into role as shill for Iran. Will he comment on Iran jailing 24 Bahais for beliefs?

The Israeli criticism in question was made by former Israeli Ambassador to the United States and current MK Michael Oren, who asked at the Holocaust commemoration event, “How can Europe honour the memory of the Holocaust, and on the exact same day host the leader of the Iranian regime, which denies that the Holocaust actually happened?” Oren was referring to Rouhani’s visit to Italy and France last week, during which Iran cemented business deals with both countries.
Salmond said that the “solemn commemoration service, ” which was held in Strassbourg, France, was not the “time and place for international politics.”
This is actually true: @AlexSalmond said Israel free to condemn Iran Holocaust denial but not at Holocaust memorials https://t.co/uGZR3v8uuU

According to The Telegraph, Lord Campbell of Pittenweem, the former Liberal Democrat leader, said, “Judgements in these matters are extremely important and often the less said the better. It was after all Mr Salmond who accused Tony Blair of committing an ‘unpardonable folly’ when the Prime Minister successfully set out to protect the people of Kosovo for the genocide being inflicted upon them.” Labour’s Lord Foulkes of Cumnock added, “He does appear to be a spokesman for Iran.”
