Holocaust film, ‘Son of Saul’ wins Golden Globe


Son Of Saul Holocaust Film

 

The Hungarian Holocaust drama “Son of Saul” took home best foreign film at the Golden Globes on Sunday. More Jewish winners are the star of the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, ” Rachel Bloom, was named best actress in a television series, musical or comedy. Bloom is the creator of the CW series about a successful New York lawyer, Rebecca Bunch, who follows her summer camp ex-boyfriend to small-town California, even though he has a serious girlfriend.

Aaron Sorkin won in the best screenplay category for the film “Steve Jobs.”

The film “Son of Saul, tells the tale of Saul Auslander, a member in “Sonderkommando” death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Saul finds a corpse he thinks is his son’s and decides to bury him. As the Sonderkommando men plan a rebellion, Saul vows to save the child’s corpse from the flames and find a rabbi to say Kaddish at a proper funeral.

Director Laszlo Nemes was on hand to accept the award at the Globes ceremony, reminding the audience that “the Holocaust has become over the years an abstraction. For me, it’s more a face, a human face. Let us not forget this face. Thank you very much.”
