Michael Bloomberg Commissions Poll For Possible Presidential Run, Report

Michael Bloomberg clean energy

It looks like former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg is testing the waters for a possible run for president. According to CNN and The New York Times Bloomberg commissioned a poll last month to see how he would fare as a third-party candidate against front-runners Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

A source close to the former mayor confirmed the report with CNN, although none of the sources would discuss the poll’s findings.

A source said Bloomberg commissioned the poll after Republican GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s rise in popularity over the last six months. Bloomberg was a longtime Democrat who switched to the Republican Party just in time to run for mayor in 2001.

In 2008 he was rumored for an independent bid. And he’s already generated a good amount of buzz for the upcoming 2016 race as well, though this is what he said when asked last fall.

State deadlines give candidates until about March to launch independent or third-party campaigns, experts told the Associated Press.
