Storm Desmond made headlines over the weekend, having caused huge disruption across Ireland and the UK, inflicting widespread flooding and leaving thousands of homes without electricity. A report from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has revealed that storms have the greatest economic impact of any natural disaster, causing over $1 trillion of losses around the world since 1995.
