70-year-old singer Carly Simon has revealed a 43 years mystery. The inspiration for her second verse of her 1972 hit “You’re So Vain” is about Warren Beatty. Simon told People magazine in an interview released on Wednesday pegged to her upcoming memoir, Boys In The Trees.
The singer adds that Beatty “thinks the whole thing is about him!”, but the number one hit is about three men, including Beatty, though she isn’t naming the others. In the past she has said the song was not about her then husband, singer-songwriter James Taylor.

The second verse features the lyrics: “You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive / Well you said that we made such a pretty pair / And that you would never leave / But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me.”
Simon was married to James Taylor, and People says she has been linked to Mick Jagger, Kris Kristofferson, Jack Nicholson and Cat Stevens.
