Walt Disney Co.’s upcoming “Star Wars” movie is awakening a global force of fans who are swamping websites in the U.S. and U.K. as they try to reserve seats to a movie still two months away from opening.

Attempts on Fandango to buy tickets to the movie, which opens on Dec. 18, produced the notice “Error 500: Technical Difficulties.”
